Many of our patients at Carp Dental get crown lengthening treatment because their teeth are covered by their excessive gums. This method allows the gums to move away and make the teeth look longer and more natural.
This process includes Dr. Carp, Dr. Yu, and Dr. Goldwater making a small series of incisions in the soft tissue to separate the gums and teeth. This allows the dentist access to the root and underlying bone. We will remove small amounts of tissue until more of the tooth is exposed, but if that doesn’t do the job, the dentist will need to remove a small amount of bone. After the proper amount of tooth is exposed, the cuts will be cleaned with sterile water and sewn together with small stitches. This entire treatment will be done under local anesthesia, and patients are provided with pain killers and preventive infection bandages. The operated area will be completely healed within two to three months.
